Introduction to Underwater Robotics

Korean course
Major

Course Name
Introduction to Underwater Robotics
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- The marine (underwater) environment is a fluid environment where signals (energy) are highly absorbed and scattered by the medium, unlike the terrestrial environment. Therefore, underwater robots cannot use most of the sensors and actuators used in terrestrial robots, and must overcome disturbances (tides, eddies) and water pressure (waterproofing) in a three-dimensional (six degrees of freedom) fluid environment, and operate in a limited power and communication environment. In this course you will learn about the types and characteristics of underwater platforms and sensors for perception, complex navigation and sensor fusion methods using multiple sensors, underwater perception and cognition technologies, and platform control to understand and overcome these environments for underwater robots.

Course Name
Multibody Dynamics of Underwater Systems
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- This course consists of both theory and practical components. In the theoretical part, students will learn the fundamental theories and methods (kinematics) of motion and force analysis for key devices constituting underwater systems. In the practical part, they will gain proficiency in 3D CAD for the three-dimensional design of underwater systems and learn the principles and application methods of multibody dynamics analysis (MBD) used for motion and force analysis.

Korean course
Major
본원
-
Course Name
Artificial Intelligence Applied Ships and Ocean Engineering
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- This course is organized through theory and practice. In theory, it provides a theoretical background on basic models (ANN, CNN, LSTM, etc.) and a review of prerequisite linear algebra and statistics required in the field of AI. In the practice, students identify AI problems that they are interested in and program them, with the goal of developing and owning their own AI code that can be applied to problems after the course.

Course Name
Storage, Carriage, and Design of Alternative Fuels for Ships
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- In response to the climate crisis and the strengthening of carbon neutrality strategies by international organizations, it has become essential to apply alternative fuels, such as low-carbon or zero-carbon fuels, to ships instead of traditional fossil fuels. This course aims to help students understand the physical and chemical properties of eco-friendly fuels, analyze the regulations for each type of fuel, and apply them to ship design. Students will have the opportunity to practice optimizing designs through the development of new concepts for improving storage and transportation performance, as well as applying various optimization methodologies.

Introduction to Maritime Navigation Systems
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- This class aims at understanding the maritime navigation systems used to navigate in the sea. Students will learn about the composition and operation principles of the representative satellite navigation systems (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, etc.), terrestrial navigation systems (eLoran), and underwater navigation systems. This course provides an opportunity to calculate the position of a receiver using various data acquired from on-site experiment.
